Range Rover Sport SVR

MIDNIGHT TRAIN

If there ever was something like the quintessential South African performance SUV, it’s this one: The Range Rover Sport SVR in a unique local colour theme: Stimela sa Sebusuku – isiZulu for Midnight Train.

The angriest Englishman, I have encountered in a long time. The sound of it’s 5.0-l. V8 beating heart is primal and awe-inspiring at the same time. What makes this particular Range Rover Sport SVR so special, is the fact, that is one of 27 custom-made and hand-finished specimens, ordered in England by Land Rover South Africa. The one shown in the pictures is finished with a range (nomen est omen) of bespoke goodies from Jaguar Land Rover‘s Special Vehicles Operations (SVO) Division in the UK.

Inspired by the importance the railways had in shaping South Africa, Land Rover SA dubbed the unique satin matte black colour ‚Stimela sa Sebusuku‘, isiZulu for ‚Midnight Train‘. This paint job accentuates the Range Rover Sport’s athletic lines while paying tribute to the mode of transport responsible for making Mzansi what it is today. The unique paint job is a whooping R128 700 extra. The stunning 22inch 5-split-spoke gloss black wheels will add another R28 500 to the already substantial base price. All of the 27 special Range Rovers have locally inspired names for the various paint options, like izi Khaleni Plum, Bantry Blue and Namaqua Orange among others. All individually created by Land Rover South Africa.

In addition to the bespoke paint finish, the black Range Rover Sport SVR has also been individualized with custom door sill plates etched with the words ‘Built by Special Vehicle Operations’ and circular B-pillar badges etched with ‘SVO BESPOKE’ logos. The interior has undergone a bespoke SV treatment with a set of red anodised shift paddles and a unique colour combination of Ebony and Pimento Windsor Leather in the seat upholstery.

And there is more. South African customers interested in custom-painted Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles are not limited to these 27 offerings. Individual colours can be applied to any Range Rover Sport SVR, Range Rover SVAD and Jaguar F-PACE SVR vehicle. Whether it is a specific brand identity, favourite pair of garments, family heirloom or anything at all, SVO can match the colour as closely as possible using latest technologies at its dedicated paint facility. The scope of personalisation also includes a wide range of interior trims and leather options through SV Bespoke, so that discerning customers can specify their personal ride.

Mercedes-Benz GLC 63 S AMG & GLS 580 – Dusty Stars
As soon as Mercedes models have a ‘G’ in their name, they can officially be taken off the beaten track. I picked two vehicles out of the GL range: the nimble GLC 63 S AMG and the mighty GLS 580. But I made only one of them dirty.
Audi S7 Sportback – The Transporter Reloaded
If the Transporter movies would have been filmed now, Jason Statham alias Frank Martin would have gone for this S7 - and not the A8 W12. In Europe the hot version of the executive sedan A7, is only available as a turbo-diesel, with a 48 Volts mild hybrid system. We are more lucky in South Africa, with this 331kW 3.0-l. turbo-charged V6 option.
Bentley Continental GT Speed – On Speed
The need for speed was felt by Dieter Losskarn in the fastest Bentley ever. The British Power Coupé Continental GT Speed is an absolute dream to drive.
