Jaguar F-Pace SVR

British Purrfection

Is the newest Jaguar F-Pace SVR still as insane as ever? Dieter Losskarn found out by spending some quality time with the pawsome Brit.

Jaguar once again hit it out of the Jurassic Park with the upgraded 2022 F-Pace SVR. Another one of a rapidly dying breed. An endangered animal. Wild, supercharged, no hybrid, but still sophisticated. Now with an even more classy interior, sublime leather seats, Meridian sound system, fine metal applications and supporting sport ‘bucket’ seats.

Latter you need, when you beat the bends in the wild cat. Introduced in 2018, and face-lifted in 2020, the newest version luckily didn’t lose any of its insanity to downsizing. There is still a V8 heart beating audibly under the Atacama orange hood. It’s an old-school engine, throwing you back to the 1990s. And almost a miracle, that Jaguar still manages to fulfil all those politically correct European emission standards with this 8-potted relic. As mentioned on a couple of occasions before, one of the last…

TOP SPEED

And because Jag is offering the fully electric SUV I-Pace for a couple of years now, the manufacturer’s green consciousness is (almost) pure.

Sportscar-like performance, paired with easy elevated access, makes the F-Pace SVR one of the best Jaguars ever. It’s a worthy Porsche Macan competitor. And it’s more aggressive, sharper styling makes BMW X6 and even Mercedes GLE look slightly dated. Not to forget the in-house competition. While the Range Rover was always Jaguar-Land Rover’s flagship SUV, the F-Pace SVR is getting very close to de-throning the epitome of sporty SUV luxury. But I haven’t experienced the newest Range Rover as yet.

While the wild cat is still audibly holding back in comfort mode, as soon as you select ‘dynamic’ it roars totally uninhibited out of the four end pipes. And you always tend to go quicker than you think. Suddenly in tighter turns, when the weight starts to push, you remember the 2.1 tons. But that’s part of the fun of driving a performance SUV briskly. Luckily the 395mm brake discs are confidently counteracting the forward momentum.

The abundantly motorized cat of prey is a power pack and a perfect all-rounder with British understatement. The purrfect Kings Man ride.

Range Rover Sport SVR – Midnight Train
The angriest Englishman, I have encountered in a long time. The sound of it’s 5.0-l. V8 beating heart is primal and awe-inspiring at the same time. What makes this particular Range Rover Sport SVR so special, is the fact, that is one of 27 custom-made and hand-finished specimens, ordered in England by Land Rover South Africa.
Porsche Girl – Michelle Hambly-Grobler
Mercedes-Benz GLC 63 S AMG & GLS 580 – Dusty Stars
As soon as Mercedes models have a ‘G’ in their name, they can officially be taken off the beaten track. I picked two vehicles out of the GL range: the nimble GLC 63 S AMG and the mighty GLS 580. But I made only one of them dirty.
