AUDI S7 SPORTBACK
THE TRANSPORTER RELOADED
If the Transporter movies would have been filmed now, Jason Statham alias Frank Martin would have gone for this S7 - and not the A8 W12.
In Europe the hot version of the executive sedan A7, is only available as a turbo-diesel, with a 48 Volts mild hybrid system. We are more lucky in South Africa, with this 331kW 3.0-l. turbo-charged V6 option.
The dark chrome and aluminium trim in the grille, side air inlets, front blade, exterior mirrors and rear diffuser gives the S7 a rather sinister look. And the four exhaust outlets and unique 21 inch wheels distinguish the S from the A.
Inside you’ll find the new Audi virtual cockpit, with altogether three screens, the largest one 12 inches wide, a sportier steering wheel and more supportive front seats. Competing with this premium four-door coupé are the Mercedes CLS
and the 6-series BMW.
Sharing the engine with the RS5 Sportback, which I am going to drive soon, both cars look and perform in a similar manner. The RS5 is a bit smaller and - on paper - quicker. But I must admit, I drove both on a dry Clarence Drive and they didn’t feel much different from each other. Both four-door cars, spacious and with sexy coupé lines. Which one would you choose? The base version of the S7 is R1 568 000, the RS5 Sportback came to R 1 655 350 with all the extras.
